Welcome aboard Robbie and Cara

Posted by Robbie Turney, December 5, 2013

Hi, I’m Robert Turney and I’ll be going on the A.A.E expedition to Antarctica for 2013. At twelve years old, I will be the youngest on the expedition and every day, on the boat and ice, I will be giving you a kid’s view of the expedition.

We are only 6 days away from leaving now and the tension is building up inside of me. My family and I are making final preparations. Buying thermal clothes and creating a checklist. I myself am nearly finished and are raring for the off.

Although I have my new clothes, I’m still trying to get a drone up and running. This drone is a very special Phantom type which has the ability to strap a GoPro camera to the underneath of it. Yet we are having some issues as it won’t actually find the satellites and because of that it is refusing to take off.

But this isn’t all. As I live in Australia I haven’t had a snowy Christmas in years; but on this trip our last day on the ice will be Christmas day. So if we’re lucky I will have another white Christmas.

Next time you’ll be hearing from me will be on the ship!

Dreaming of warmer times
